Repairing Teak Wood

Teak can be considered a treasured wood. It offers beauty as well as strength to different pieces of furniture as well as household products, boats, and other items. Teak comes from tropical hardwood birch trees. Although it is very hearty it is still capable of developing cracks or breaks if it cannot withstand the force applied. It is essential to maintain the beauty and strength of teak wood through proper teak restoration and deck refinishing

You can hire someone for your teak furniture repair or you can attempt to do the teak repair on your own. If it is a major repair that is needed, and a prized piece of furniture in your home, then you might want to consider using a teak repair service. If you are attempting the repair you can use putty on a crack. You press the putty along the length of the crack. You can apply this with your finger. Next, you will wipe off any extra putty and then smooth out the area by moving your finger side to side. It is important to allow the putty to set. This generally takes one hour. After allowing enough time for the putty to set it is important to seal the crack. You can do this by brushing on polyurethane.

If you have actual breaks in your teak wood you can also make this repair. You will need some good glue. First, glue the piece of wood back into place. Next, use clamps to hold the pieces together. If you do not have a clamp you can use a strong rubber band. If the broken piece is in a difficult location in order to apply a clamp then a sturdy rubber band is a good alternative. If you use a clamp or a rubber band just make certain not to clamp the wood too tightly - if you do then you will cause the wood glue to squeeze all over. Allow the glue to set. Once it is dry yu can remove the clamps or rubber bands.
