Five Simple Ways to Save Money at Home This Summer
Summertime can be an expensive time. With the air conditioner blasting every day and children begging for trips to the local amusement park, the expenses can really add up. It’s important to keep an eye on the budget and help to save money at home. Think about incorporating some of the following ideas to help you with your summer expenditures:
- Tweak the thermostat about three degrees. While it is nice to have the house at a cool 70 degrees or less, it’s also expensive. Three degrees might not be quite so comfy but it’s not a big enough change to break a sweat. Making such a small adjustment can lead to big savings on the utility bills.
- Make your own amusement park. Kids love the idea of an amusement park because it’s different from their everyday routine. Taking them for a car ride in a nearby canyon or mountains if you have them can serve the same purpose. Any quality time spent with mom or dad is time kids will cherish.
- Grow your own garden. Eating fresh will help your children to get the nutrition they need which will help their bodies to grow and develop properly. Producing your own fruits and vegetables can save quite a bit on grocery expenditures while also providing a family project for all to get involved in.
- Make your own water park. All the big water parks offer a chance for kids to cool off and enjoy the sun. They also cost an insane amount of money for a one day pass. The same purpose can be accomplished with a grassy back yard, sprinkler set and a homemade waterslide. The costs of creating this home-made water park will be about $10 or less and the memories created will be priceless.
- Get creative. Kids love adventure and exploring the world. Let the internet and your imagination save you the time and money it otherwise would take to see the world the old fashioned way. Peak their interests in various things to look at on Google maps. Have them explore the different types of architectural designs for new homes in Utah County, Grand Forks, North Dakota or anywhere in the world for that matter. The world is your oyster and the imagination is the only thing holding you back from having an adventure right in your living room that won’t cost a dime.
