A Delaware pediatrician has been indicted on 471 felony counts in the alleged sexual abuse of his
patients, prosecutors announced Monday.
The Sussex County grand jury indictment accuses Dr. Earl Bradley, 56, who has had a practice in Lewes, Delaware, for more than 10 years, of victimizing 103 children -- all but one girls. The charges range from rape and sexual exploitation of a child to endangering child welfare and assault. (CNN)
The question is, who can you trust. After so much antsy, I started googling why a Pediatrician would turn a Pedophile. According to Dr. Eli Newberger, "Pedophiles, individuals whose sexual preference is for children, may select professional contexts in which access to children is assured. Within the medical profession, pediatrics offers such access. The pediatrician, usually a beloved and trusted member of the community, has intimate and often private contact with children's bodies. When the pediatrician is a pedophile, the interests and needs of many parties are compromised: the children's needs to be free of abuse and exploitation and to trust adult caregivers, the medical profession's needs to maintain its standards for care and its status within the community, and the community's needs to maintain social order and to trust those on whom it relies for the care of children".
Here are some tips shared by CNN News Correspondents on safety measures to take before choosing a pediatrician. And even with that, never leave your child alone with a pediatrician. You are allowed to be with them at all times even in emergency and examination rooms.
Here are the safety measures before choosing a Pediatrician for your child
1) Find out if your pediatrician has a criminal past:
To find out whether your doctor has been disciplined by a state medical board, here's a state-by-state directory of medical boards.
2) Check your pediatrician's national profile:
Some states explain why a doctor has been disciplined while others don’t, so just searching in your state might not reveal a doctor's history of problems elsewhere. You can also get a national profile on your doctor for just under $10 by searching on the Federation of State Medical Boards website.
3) Get a good recommendation
You can view the American Academy of Pediatrics’ list of recommended pediatricians on their website.

Isn't this a shame! This is a crazy world we live in. You have to second guess everyone. Teachers, doctors, neighbors, and on and on. Ridiculous.
It's a certainly a shame it has to be that way!
Not only that, the laws need some major help. Makes me sick.
I agree with you. We need better systems in place to protect our kids.
Oh my goodness! I have butterflies in my stomach after reading this.
I am always in the room with my children but, two out of four of them are at that tween/ teen stage and the doctor did ask me to leave the room at their last appointment to speak with them privately.
They told me at this age it is common, and that they think the children will talk with them more freely about adolecent issues without parents in the room. I talk to my children about the changes their body and sex openly but, IDK. Maybe next time I'll challenge it and see what happends. Great Post!
Grammatical Error: Last paragraph 3rd line down should read " I talk to my children about their body and sex openly"
Yes, I'm that anal! Lol!
that is really scary!!!! Thank goodness our pediatrician is always a friend of mine. Every time we go in there I am always in the room and she talks to our kids about not letting people touch them inappropriatly.
i just saw this today- ugh.
and following from MBC :)
I heard about this story as well and it made me very sad for both the parents and the children. I, for one, have always stayed in the room and watched very carefully during any doctor's appointments that my son has had--not because I expected anything like this, but just to be sure he was being properly cared for. I can't imagine ever feeling such a violation of my trust and my child :-(.
Following you from MBC. Thank you for checking out my blog and the wonderful comment on the design which I did mostly by myself! I love the premise of your blog and will be sure to read often.
It's so sad that anyone would do this to a child-maybe harder when it's someone you trust. I always stay in the room with my girls but my oldest just turned 13 so I know that can't go on forever. It's scary to think about and know it's in our world.
Thanks for stoppig by my blog and thanks for following-following you back! Your daughter is adorable!!
Just stopping by and returning the favor- following your blog now, and great article. It's sad that even doctors can't be trusted anymore.
Oh my goodness! How frightening. Nightmarish even.
Thank you Blessing (what a gorgeous name!) for stopping by. I am returning the follow. I will definitely be back. You are very well informed!

I heard about this and oh my goodness its scary. Great advice. My mom was telling me she never let me be alone with my Dr. when I was a child. Believe me, I will follow her suit.

Thanks for commenting on this piece everyone.
This is a scary thought. So far my kids are small and I'm always in the room with them. I hate that we live in a world where this kind of thing happens. :(
So sad and scary!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I really am enjoying yours
A friend of mine told me about this news story. I couldn't believe it. It amazes me how many people put their trust in people with "higher up" positions. I am very protective of my daughter and this is one of the reasons why.
Thanks for stopping by. I will be following you. A lot of useful information on here!
